Let’s get started.

What is 5-HTP?

5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) is a compound our body produces from tryptophan, which is an amino acid found in food like eggs, turkey, and salmon.

Our bodies use 5-HTP to produce serotonin – an important neurotransmitter which facilitates communication between neurons.

Since it’s not found in any foods, we can’t obtain 5-HTP from our diet. So, many people supplement with 5-HTP to remove the need to create it from tryptophan, with the aim of boosting serotonin levels.
