Best Time To Take Maca Root (For Libido And Menopause)

So, you’ve decided to supplement with Maca.

Good decision my friend – it’s a great supplement.

There’s just one problem…

You have no idea when to take it.

Now, Maca works as an adaptogen meaning it adapts to your body’s needs.

So if you’re worn out from a busy day in the office, it can help calm you down.

Whereas if you’ve just woke up and feel a bit groggy, it can help give you a boost.

Why’s this important?

Well, the time of day that you take adaptogens, like Maca, has a huge impact on the benefits you may experience from taking them.

So right now, I’m going to explore the benefits you may see from taking Maca in the morning and at night.

You can then use this knowledge to take Maca at a time which suits your individual goals.

First, let’s see why you might want to take Maca in the morning.

Reasons For Taking Maca In The Morning

Maca is nutrient-rich

Maca is an excellent source of many vitamins and minerals.

In fact, an ounce of Maca root powder contains:

  • Iron: 23% of the RDI
  • Copper: 85% of the RDI
  • Potassium: 16% of the RDI
  • Vitamin C: 133% of the RDI
  • Vitamin B6: 15% of the RDI
  • Manganese: 10% of the RDI

It also contains many other health boosting compounds, like polyphenols and glucosinolates.

So, by taking Maca in the morning, you’re kickstarting your day with a boost of nutrients which will help give you energy and make you feel awesome during the day.

Maca may improve Menopause symptoms

Menopause is officially diagnosed after a woman’s gone a full year without a menstrual period.

Although this is a natural part of a woman’s life, it may result in a few frustrating symptoms, including:

  • Irritablility
  • Hot flashes
  • Mood swings
  • Vaginal dryness

Interestingly, a review of 4 studies found that Maca can help relive these symptoms.

Since these symptoms are more troublesome throughout the day, I recommend taking Maca in the morning if Menopause is affecting you.

Maca may protect skin from UV radiation

The UV rays from the sun are known to damage exposed skin.

Over time, this can lead to wrinkles and increase your risk of skin cancer.

According to research, topical Maca (i.e. Maca applied to the skin) may be able to protect you from this damage.

This protective effect has been seen in animal studies too. (Source)

So, by using topical Maca in the morning, you’re providing your skin with an extra layer of security from the sun’s harmful rays.

IMPORTANT: This protective effect has only been shown when Maca is applied directly to the skin – NOT when taken orally. And even when using topical Maca, you should still follow safe sun guidelines such as wearing sunscreen and avoiding midday sun exposure.

Reasons For Taking Maca At Night

Some of you may have already decided that Maca is the perfect supplement to add to your morning routine.

But if you’re still on the fence, this section of the article covers the benefits of supplementing with Maca at night.

Maca may increase libido

Reduced sexual appetite is an issue for many adults as they get older.

In fact, research suggests that up to 52% of menopausal women in America experience low sexual desire!

So, it’s not surprising to see a lot of people turn to herbal supplements for enhancing their sex drive.

While many of these herbs fail to deliver on their promises, Maca’s effectiveness has been supported by research.

For example, a 12-week study measured the sexual desire of men after taking Maca or a placebo.

The Maca users reported a significant improvement in libido after only 8 weeks!

So by taking Maca at night, you can reignite the flames in the bedroom which will not only save your relationship, but even help you sleep better 😉

Conclusion

By now, you’ve all the information you need to pick whether you’re more suited to taking Maca in the morning or at night.

By the law of averages, some of you will see better results taking it in the morning, while others will notice more benefits taking it in the evening.

For those folks who are still on the fence, an interesting way to find out when you should take Maca would be to do your own mini experiment.

Try taking Maca every morning for 2 weeks and make a note of how you feel.

Then do the same again while taking it in the evening.

The results may surprise you!

Well, that’s all I have for this article.

Please share your thoughts and experiences with Maca in the comments below. I love to hear from you guys!

Maca is a great supplement to help balance your hormones and keep you frisky. It does help with menopause symptoms, too. I've been taking it for over 7 years and can feel the different. I recommend to anyone. It' adds an overall good feeling.
