And I get that.

So if you’re aiming for 3000 calories a day, rather than eating 5 large meals, you can eat 3 big meals and have a mass gainer shake. This way, you can achieve your calorie intake without spending hours upon hours in the kitchen.
You’re Unlikely To Gain Much Muscle
Unless you’re a genetic freak, you’re very unlikely to build muscle without working out.
Even if you take mass gainer.
Well, to build muscle, you need to give your muscles a reason to grow. And the only way to do this is to exercise your muscles to the point of fatigue.
So regardless of whether you take mass gainer, your muscles simply won’t grow if they’re not being exercised.
(Muscles are metabolically inefficient as they require a lot of calories. Since calories were scarce ‘back in the day’, your body will do everything it can to avoid gaining muscle.)
You’re More Likely To Gain Fat
As covered earlier, you WILL gain weight if you’re in a calorie surplus.
That’s a fact.
But what type of weight will you gain?
Well, mass gainers are high in carbohydrates, so you will gain a lot of water weight in order to store glycogen.
(Glycogen is chains of carbohydrates stored in your muscles, and it’s your muscles preferred fuel source when exercising. Glycogen is held together by water, so when you fill up your glycogen stores, you gain a lot of water weight.)
Once your glycogen stores are full, the rest of the weight gained will likely be fat. This is because you’re not working out, so none of the calories are needed to fuel muscle growth.
So be warned – mass gainer will make you fat if you eat a lot of calories and avoid exercise.
Can You Use Mass Gainer As A Meal Replacement?
As touched upon earlier, mass gainer is an efficient way to consume a meal’s worth of calories if you’re short on time.
And with it being high in protein and carbs, it covers 2 of your macros.
That said, you typically won’t find many vitamins and minerals in mass gainer, so it is important to eat plenty of fruit and veg in your other meals so that you’re not deficient in anything.
Is It Safe To Take Mass Gainer If You Don’t Work Out?
Mass gainer is a safe supplement regardless of whether you work out.
But if it’s making you fat, then you should probably stop taking mass gainer to reduce the risk of serious diseases, like diabetes and heart disease.
Does Mass Gainer Work Without Working Out?
If you’re taking mass gainer to gain weight, then you’re even more likely to gain weight if you take it without working out.
So from that perspective, mass gainer definitely works even if you don’t work out.
However, if you’re taking mass gainer to build big muscles, then you’re unlikely to build muscle if you don’t work out, regardless of whether you take mass gainer.
