What is Matcha?
Matcha is a type of tea that comes from the same plant as your regular green tea, called Camellia Sinensis.

When producing Matcha, the tea leaves are covered from sunlight for many days before they’re harvested.
This process boosts the chlorophyll levels of the tea leaves, which gives Matcha its recognisable bright green color.

Guarana is a plant that’s native to the Amazon rainforest.
It belongs to soapberry family of plants, which includes the popular Lychee.
Guarana gets its name from the word warana, which means fruit like the eyes of the people in the Tupi-Guarani language.

Benefits of Matcha
Matcha is rich in antioxidants
Free radical build up can lead to oxidative stress, which is thought to play an important role in aging and many serious diseases.
Antioxidants are powerful molecules that can help neutralize free radicals, resulting in less oxidative stress and a healthier you.
Matcha is rich in compounds called catechins, which work as antioxidants in the body.
And unlike normal green tea, you actually consume the leaf meaning you ingest more antioxidants.
(One estimate suggests that Matcha may contain 137x more catechins than other types of green tea!)
Matcha may help increase fat oxidation
Many popular fat burners and cutting supplements include green tea extract as a key ingredient.
And for good reason too.
One study found that taking green tea extract during a workout can increase fat oxidation by 17%.
Another study found that taking green tea extract mixed with Guarana significantly boosted calorie burning over 24 hours, when compared with a placebo.
Matcha may enhance mental performance
Lots of people drink Matcha for its cognitive enhancing properties.
In one study, 23 people took either Matcha tea, 4g of Matcha powder in a bar, placebo tea, or a placebo bar.
They then performed various tasks to measure their mental function.
According to the results, the subjects in the Matcha groups had significant improvement in memory, attention, and reaction time compared to those in the placebo groups.
In another study, 12 elderly subjects who took 2g of green tea powder each day had improved cognitive function after 3 months.
Matcha may be liver protective
Research suggests that Matcha may help protect the liver.
A study of 80 non-alcoholic fatty liver disease patients investigated the effects of green tea extract on liver enzymes.
(High levels of liver enzymes are a sign of liver damage by the way…)
In the study, the patients took either 500mg of green tea extract or a placebo every day for 3 months.
The results showed that the green tea extract significantly reduced the levels of liver enzymes.

Guarana may help improve heart health
Heart disease is one of the biggest killers on the planet.
Interestingly, Guarana may help reduce heart disease in multiple ways.
Firstly, the antioxidants in Guarana may help improve blood flow and prevent blood clots. (Source)

In one study, the subjects took either a Guarana-containing supplement or a placebo.

In one study, the subjects took either Guarana or Ginseng and then performed a task to measure their mental performance.
Although subjects from both groups had improved memory and performance, those who took Guarana completed the task in less time.

For a mid-range Matcha powder, you can expect to pay around $7 for 1 ounce.
Guarana is normally sold as a powder or in capsules.

When taken in sensible amounts, most people can tolerate Matcha with very few side effects.
But those who consume too much may experience the following side effects:

But due to its high caffeine content, it may cause the following side effects when taken in high amounts:
