Both Moringa and Ginseng have a ton to offer and I’m big fan of them both. But since they’re similar in many ways, it can be hard to choose between them.

What is Moringa?

Moringa (Moringa Oleifera) is an ancient tree that grows in Nepal, India, Pakistan and the tropics.

Now, the interesting thing about Moringa is that every single part of the plant is used and consumed by people.

I.e. people use the bark, stalk, roots, seeds and leaves to improve their health.

To be clear, this is rare for plants as usually only one or two parts are consumed.

(The leaves of tea for example.)

Moringa is referred to as the miracle tree thanks to its epic health promoting properties.

What is Ginseng?

Ginseng is an ancient herb native to Asia that’s been used to improve health for 1000s of years.

In Chinese, Ginseng’s name roughly translates to essence of man, and today it’s one of the most popular herbal supplements in the US.

Lots of the health benefits that Ginseng offers are credited to compounds known as Ginsenosides.

Benefits of Moringa

Moringa is antioxidant-rich

Free radical build-up can lead to oxidative stress, which is believed to play a big role in aging and chronic diseases.

Antioxidants are powerful molecules that help neutralize these pesky free radicals.

Moringa is rich in the following antioxidants:

  • Vitamin C
  • Quercetin
  • Beta-Carotene
  • Chlorogenic Acid

Moringa may help lower inflammation

What do the following diseases have in common:

  • Stroke
  • Cancer
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Heart Disease

If you answered they’re all linked to inflammation, then you’d be right.

So to reduce your risk of these diseases, lowering inflammation is super important.

Moringa is rich in compounds called isothiocyanates which are thought to have anti-inflammatory properties.

Moringa may help lower Cholesterol

High cholesterol levels are a serious risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD).

So to reduce your risk of developing CVD, it makes sense to lower your cholesterol levels.

Well according to research, Moringa may be good for lowering cholesterol.

Moringa may help lower blood sugar levels

Stable blood sugar levels are crucial for your physical and mental wellbeing.

High blood sugar levels are often the result of binging on junk food, and they can make you feel tired, irritable and lethargic.

Interestingly, Moringa may help lower blood sugar levels.

This study showed that subjects who took 7g of Moringa per day for 3 months had a 13.5% reduction in fasting blood sugar levels.

Benefits of Ginseng

Ginseng may help improve cognitive function

According to research, Ginseng may be effective at boosting mental performance.

In one study, subjects who took 200mg of Ginseng per day showed improvements in mood, mental health and social functioning after just 4 weeks.

Another study looked at how 400mg of daily Ginseng affected the subject’s cognitive function.

The subjects showed improved calmness and math ability after only 8 days.

Ginseng may help treat erectile dysfunction

The reason why erectile dysfunction is so tricky to treat is that it often has multiple causes, such as:

  • Oxidative stress
  • Low levels of nitric oxide

Interestingly, Ginseng can help reduce oxidative stress (source) as well as boost nitric oxide levels (source).

Better still, in this study Ginseng was twice as effective as prescribed ED medication for treating ED!

Ginseng may boost immune function

One of the big complications of Cancer treatment is a weakened immune system.

Research shows that Ginseng may help strengthen the immune system.

For example, a study looked at the effects of Ginseng on immune system markers in Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

The results showed that the Ginseng takers had better immune system markers than the other subjects.

Ginseng may help reduce inflammation

Like Moringa, Ginseng may be effective at lowering inflammation.

Research shows it helps regulate TNFa, which is a cytokine that plays an important role in inflammation.

Moringa is typically sold as a powder or in capsules.

Standard prices for these are:

Ginseng is usually sold as slices or in capsules.

Typical prices for these are:

Side Effects

Moringa Side Effects

Most healthy adults tolerate Moringa supplements with very few problems.

But those taking blood sugar lowering medications should speak to a doctor before using Moringa.

Ginseng Side Effects

Like Moringa, Ginseng supplements are usually well-tolerated, although the following side effects have been reported in some instances:

  • Diarrhea
  • Insomnia
  • Headaches
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Blood pressure fluctuations

Furthermore, women can sometimes experience additional side effects like vaginal bleeding and breast tenderness.

If you’re taking any other medication, then please speak to a doctor before using Ginseng as it may interact poorly with other drugs.
