L-Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the human body.
For those who paid attention in biology class, amino acids are the “building blocks” of protein.

As many will know, protein is the king macronutrient when it comes to building muscle mass, so if muscle building is your goal, I’d definitely be interested in L-Glutamine.
It’s an extremely fine powder, so it can easily be blended in a smoothie, protein shake or any beverage of choice.
What benefits does ON Glutamine Powder have to offer?
L-Glutamine is a supplement that is often overlooked by fitness enthusiasts.
Because not many people know about it.
But this doesn’t mean that it’s not very useful though – L-Glutamine is a phenomenal supplement.
It has a ton of benefits.
It helps prevent muscle catabolism (the breakdown of muscle tissue) so you don’t have to worry about losing your gainz.
It helps with cell volumizing, pushing more water in the muscle cell which speeds up recovery.
And it also helps with protein metabolism (faster protein uptake meaning quicker protein synthesis.)
In layman’s terms, it helps with building muscle and prevents you from losing muscle.
The biggest benefit I’ve personally seen since taking ON Glutamine Powder is its effect on DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness).
For those who don’t know, this is the pain your muscles feel a day or 2 after an intense workout.

Now the little-known thing about L-Glutamine is its effects on gut health.
It is the preferred fuel source of the cells which line the surface of your gut (called Enterocytes).
So by taking L-Glutamine, the permeability of your gut should improve.
In fact there are many studies which show this to be true.
One study in particular looked at a group of 107 children and how they responded to L-Glutamine supplementation. Half of the children took L-glutamine and the other half took a placebo.
In just 4 months, the children who received the L-glutamine supplement had improved intestinal barrier function.

What dosage of ON Glutamine Powder should you take?
Although the tub recommends taking up to 10g per day, I personally take 15 since I work out intensely at least 4 days a week.
This seems to be my optimal dosage for preventing DOMS.
But if you don’t lift weights (you should) and only intended on using ON Glutamine Powder for your gut health, you may get away with an even lower dosage.
It’s worth experimenting to see what works for you.
How I take ON Glutamine Powder
The recommended serving size is 5g per serving so as I’m taking 15g per day, I split this into 3 different servings throughout the day.
I take my first serving upon waking on an empty stomach, which is a 5g scoop in a glass of ice-cold filtered water.
Which leads me to the only negative I can think of for this product…
It tastes a bit strange if taken only with water.
Now it doesn’t necessarily taste horrible, it’s just a unique taste.
(Bare in mind the powder is 100% L-Glutamine with no flavorings, hence you would expect the taste to be noticeable in plain water.)
This isn’t a deal breaker by any means though – the benefits of taking ON Glutamine Powder far outweigh the displeasure of an odd taste in your mouth.
Next, serving numero dos comes in my pre-workout shake.
Again, this is another 5g scoop which will load up my L-Glutamine stores to fuel an intense workout.
And then my final serving of the day comes in my post-workout shake.
This serving helps replenish my L-Glutamine resources, which results in less DOMS the next day.
Unsurprisingly, this is my favorite serving as the taste of L-Glutamine is masked with super-sweet whey protein.
