ON Micronized Creatine Review (Best Creatine Supplement?)

I may receive a commission for purchases made through product links on this page, but I always stand by my opinions and endorsements!

In my humble opinion, ON (Optimum Nutrition) are king when it comes to bodybuilding supplements.

I’ve used their Glutamine powder and Gold Standard Whey protein for many months now and can only say good things about them.

In fact, if you go to any supplement store worldwide, then chances are you’ll see their products everywhere.

Recently, having discovered that Creatine helps with mitochondrial health (more on that later…), I thought it would be a good shout to give ON Micronized Creatine a try.

(I generally only use supplements if they have multiple benefits. I held off Creatine as I initially thought it was only good for muscle building.)

So this article reveals my experience with using ON Micronized Creatine.

Let’s get to it.

What is ON Micronized Creatine?

ON Micronized Creatine (Amazon) is made from pure Creatine Monohydrate.

The great thing about most Creatine powders (including this one) is that they’re 100% pure Creatine.

In other words, you don’t get any nasty additives/preservatives which come with most other supplement powders.

But ON Micronized Creatine stands out from the rest for 2 reasons:

  • The Creatine is micronized
  • The Creatine is made from Creapure

Micronized Creatine means the particles are broken down even smaller, making it much easier to mix and dissolve in liquids.

(I don’t know about you, but to me, there’s nothing worse than a clumpy, bitty post workout shake.)

Creapure is the most studied form of Creatine and is proven to be safe and effective.

It’s also synthetic, meaning it’s suitable for vegans too.

What benefits does ON Micronized Creatine have to offer?

Creatine is one of the most studied bodybuilding supplements in existence, and has been proven to work in pretty much every study.

When consumed, Creatine Monohydrate is converted to Creatine Phosphate, which helps the body make ATP.

(ATP is basically the “energy currency” for our cells. Every single bodily function requires energy, hence ATP.)

So when working out, having that extra bit of ATP will help you squeeze out a few more reps which will help with muscle building and improving strength.

But don’t just take my word for it though, there are many studies which back up this claim.

For example, in one study, users who ingested Creatine had a 14% greater increase in strength compared to the participants who took a placebo instead.

Okay, so now we both agree on the benefits of Creatine in general, let’s cover why ON Micronized Creatine (Amazon) is more effective than others.

As I mentioned earlier, this Creatine is micronized making the particles smaller.

Whilst I’ve already said how this helps with mixability, it also helps with the absorption of Creatine.

This improved absorption will help speed up the effects of Creatine, as well as saving you money in the long run.

(More absorption means you don’t need to use as much of the powder to get the same effects of a less absorbable Creatine powder, if that makes sense?)

ON Micronized Creatine for mitochondrial health

Many people believe that Creatine is purely a bodybuilding supplement, and only benefits aspiring muscle heads.

But one of the lesser known benefits of Creatine is its effects on mitochondrial health and aging.

Creatine has recently been found to lower the build up of lipofuscin in the brains of aging mice. (Source)

(Lipofuscin is a recognised marker of aging.)

As a result, these Creatine-fed mice lived an average of 9% longer than the control mice.

If we were to translate that to human years, 9% roughly equals an extra 7 years, which is quite remarkable!

What dosage of ON Micronized Creatine should you take?

This all depends on what “phase” of taking Creatine you’re at.

Without going into too much detail, it’s advised that you take 20g daily in the “loading phase” and 5g daily in the “maintenance phase”.

(ON Micronized Creatine comes with a 5g scoop which makes it super easy to measure the amount you need.)

If you understand what I mean by “loading phase” and “maintenance phase”, then great.

For those who don’t, I explain the concept in detail in my ultimate guide of taking Creatine, so please give that a read.

How I take ON Micronized Creatine

If I’m in the “loading phase”, I take 4 scoops (so 20g in total) spread out throughout the day.

But when I’m in the “maintenance phase”, I take 1 scoop in my post workout shake mixed with Whey protein.

It’s been shown that Creatine is best taken post workout rather than pre workout and that Creatine taken with Whey protein has a synergistic effect.

(I.e. taking Creatine alongside Whey is more effective than taking them separately at different times of day.)

Where to find ON Micronized Creatine

I snagged my ON Micronized Creatine from my local supplement store for around $40, which isn’t bad considering it’ll last me many months.

Being a globally recognised product, I’m sure you’ll be able to find it at your nearest supplement store too, regardless of where you live.

But if you prefer having it shipped directly to your doorstep, you can get ON Micronized Creatine from Amazon.

Conclusion

I was excited to try out ON Micronized Creatine and like with all ON supplements, I had high expectations.

Well, it’s fair to say these expectations were matched.

This is a high-quality, well absorbed and super effective Creatine supplement guys, and it has my full backing.

But if I was to give a negative about it, it would be the price.

Look, it’s not expensive by any means, but there are cheaper alternatives out there.

It really depends if you want to sacrifice quality for price.

Well that’s all for today folks.

What’s your experience with Creatine been like?
